Half door attachment method

One minor miracle was that the half doors fitted my old style Westfield bodywork but the rest of the miracle is that they also fit with the Cage. Top marks for Aerodynamix and they look terrific, I cannot wait to try them out. The main reason for fitting them was to reduce buffeting.

Before fitting them I first attached some 15mm U channel around the perimeter using tiger seal. The textured finish on the inside of the Aerodynamix part started to abrade the bodywork especially at the forward most edge.

I first attached the front with some heavy duty Velcro tape ensuring the spikes were attached to the bulge in the bodywork. This also had the beneficial effect of stopping the bodywork becoming abraded.

The rear was attached with an elastic Velcro strap. The Velcro was held in place by an alloy bracket and 5mm rivets.

I also attached some self adhesive hard rubber U channel to the top edge for safety reasons.

The attachments are both simple and can be done from inside the car.

I am sure there are many ways of doing this but I found this minimal effort to implement.

Roll cage and side doors

I must be getting to the end of the list for this seasons work on the Megabusa. The roll cage was purchased from Caged Laser Engineering. They get the best reputation on the forum in terms of quality and added weight. The GRP half doors were purchased from Aerodynamix.

The roll cage was about a month manufacturing in their factory in  Somerset. It came with instructions and a certificate of Homologation. If I said it was easy to fit I would be grossly understating the task.  Much fettling was required with the chassis mounting points. However I am more than pleased with the result. More importantly it looks safe, I expect the result will pass scrutinising and I think it makes the Megabusa package safer to drive.

The half doors are an excellent fit, the first Item I have purchased for that car that will be a minimal fitting job. I still have to attach some fixing straps. The half doors will add some safety in that they will keep your arms inside the car.

I must get some roll cage foam to avaoid bashing my head getting in!

Oil catch tank

The previous tank was a ~2L alloy box with a rubber tube inserted. This was obviously part of the original build. Despite being in good condition it appeared to leak in that oil accumulated on the chassis plate immediately below it. I assume this was some sort of vapour spray from the breather when blasting it around Knockhill. It was also inaccessible so was very difficult to monitor if it was effective. It also blocked off some of the airflow from the oil cooler (a very necessary device on a Megabusa). The new device is straight off ebay is 1L and has a filter on the overflow connection (made in China of course). A special stainless steel bracket was fabricated to attach it to the chassis. The new tank has a level tube on the side to keep track of the overflow. The filter should stop any vapour spillage.
